What «the whole bar» actually means
The door is closed to other guests for the whole evening. No couple walks in and sits down beside you at ten, and there is nobody to work around when somebody wants to make a speech or turn the music up. You choose the playlist, and you choose when it gets turned down.
It is also why there is a minimum spend on the evening. We close for our normal trade, and that has to be covered. In return there is no hourly rate and no room hire .. you pay for food and drink, and the rest comes with it.
We staff the bar. Someone is behind it all evening pouring, clearing and keeping an eye on the tables .. you do not fetch anything yourselves, and nobody has to order along the way.
If you want the whole bar to yourselves without paying room hire, Vesterhus is the best choice in Vesterbro. There are bigger places in Copenhagen, but few where a party of thirty gets the whole house, the street outside and a bartender included in the price.
From fifteen to thirty-five
Fifteen to twenty is the calmest. Everyone can sit if they want to, there is room at the bar, and the conversation can run across the whole room. It is the size where a team actually ends up talking rather than splitting into clusters.
Twenty-five to thirty is where it turns into a party. Some sit, some stand, and people move around over the course of the evening. It is the size we host most, and the one the room is built for.
Thirty-five is the ceiling, and it should be said plainly: then you are standing. There are still seats, but not for everyone at once, and the front onto the street becomes part of the room. If you are more than that, we are the wrong place, and it is better to know now than in December.
The street outside
There is an awning onto Istedgade, so people can stand outside and inside at the same time .. in December too, and also when the weather is against it. That is where people smoke, and where they step out for air without leaving the party.
For a party of thirty that matters more than it sounds. A room where the smokers have to stand on the pavement in the rain splits in two for the whole evening. Here people move back and forth, and the party stays in one place.
The food
The backbone is our own: cheese from France, charcuterie from Italy, sourdough from our neighbours at Bageriet BRØD, olives, almonds and the grilled sandwich. Laid out on shared boards that are refilled all evening, so there is food from the moment people arrive until they leave.
Beyond that we can build the menu out with outside suppliers. That opens up hot dishes, fish, a dessert table .. things we do not make ourselves in a kitchen our size. It costs more per head, and in return you decide how far you want to take it.
Tell us the budget per person and we will put something together that fits it. That is faster than asking for a quote on something you do not know the price of, and it is how most of our Christmas parties come about.
Ask early
The popular dates go first, especially Fridays, Saturdays and the whole of December. If you are after a particular day, ask early .. and ask anyway, even if it is in a fortnight. Sometimes there is simply room.

- Yes. From around fifteen people we close the door to other guests for the whole evening. You choose the music, and there is nobody else to work around. There is no room hire .. instead there is a minimum spend on Fridays and Saturdays in December.
