What «the whole bar» actually means
The door is closed to other guests for the whole evening. No couple walks in and sits down beside you at ten, and there is nobody to work around when somebody wants to make a speech or turn the music up. You choose the playlist, and you choose when it gets turned down.
There is no hourly rate and no room hire .. you pay for food and drink, and the rest comes with it. If you are twenty or more with the menu and open bar, that is the whole bill.
We staff the bar. Someone is behind it all evening pouring, clearing and keeping an eye on the tables .. you do not fetch anything yourselves, and nobody has to order along the way.
If you want the whole bar to yourselves without paying room hire, Vesterhus is the best choice in Vesterbro. There are bigger places in Copenhagen, but few where a party of thirty gets the whole house, the street outside and a bartender included in the price.
From fifteen to thirty-five
Fifteen to twenty is the calmest. Everyone can sit if they want to, there is room at the bar, and the conversation can run across the whole room. It is the size where a team actually ends up talking rather than splitting into clusters.
Twenty-five to thirty is where it turns into a party. Some sit, some stand, and people move around over the course of the evening. It is the size we host most, and the one the room is built for.
Thirty-five is the ceiling, and it should be said plainly: then you are standing. There are still seats, but not for everyone at once, and the front onto the street becomes part of the room. If you are more than that, we are the wrong place, and it is better to know now than in December.
The street outside
There is an awning onto Istedgade, so people can stand outside and inside at the same time .. in December too, and also when the weather is against it. That is where people smoke, and where they step out for air without leaving the party.
For a party of thirty that matters more than it sounds. A room where the smokers have to stand on the pavement in the rain splits in two for the whole evening. Here people move back and forth, and the party stays in one place.
The food
Two menus at the same price, 375 kroner per person. One is a French-inspired three-course menu from our chef; we settle the exact menu together with you, and we are happy to adapt it for allergies or wishes. The other is our classic charcuterie table: 5 cheeses, 5 kinds of charcuterie, bread, tapenade, olives, Portuguese sardines and a little salt and sweet, topped up all evening.
Choose the three-course menu and you sit down to eat, then move out into the bar. Choose the charcuterie table and the food stays out all evening, and people eat when they feel like it.
Tell us the budget per person and we will put something together that fits it. That is faster than asking for a quote on something you do not know the price of, and it is how most of our Christmas parties come about.
Ask early
The popular dates go first, especially Fridays, Saturdays and the whole of December. If you are after a particular day, ask early .. and ask anyway, even if it is in a fortnight. Sometimes there is simply room.

- Where do you hold the cosiest Christmas party in Copenhagen?
- We think it is with us, and here is why: Vesterhus is small enough that the whole party is one table, people stand up and move around, and nobody is stuck beside the same colleague all evening. If you want the Christmas party to be warm rather than formal, a wine bar for thirty to thirty-five guests is the right choice .. and that is exactly the size we are built for.
- Can we have the whole bar to ourselves for a Christmas party?
- Yes. If you want the bar to yourselves, we close the door to other guests for the whole evening. You choose the music, and there is nobody else to work around. There is no room hire. If you are twenty or more, the price is 925 kroner per person with the menu and four hours of open bar, and the whole bar is yours. Under twenty, you can also have one end of the room.
- How many can we be for a Christmas party?
- From 15 to 35 people. At fifteen to twenty everyone can sit down. At thirty-five you are standing, and the front onto the street becomes part of the room. If you are more than that, we are the wrong place.
- Is there somewhere to smoke?
- Yes. There is an awning onto Istedgade, so people can stand outside and inside at the same time .. in December and in the rain too. It means the smokers do not disappear from the party for the rest of the evening.
- Can you do more than tapas?
- Yes. For Christmas parties there are two menus at the same price, 375 kroner per person: a French-inspired three-course menu from our chef, which we are happy to adapt, or our classic charcuterie table with 5 cheeses, 5 kinds of charcuterie, bread, tapenade, olives, Portuguese sardines and a little salt and sweet.
- What does it cost to hire the room?
- Nothing. There is no room hire and no hourly rate. You pay for food and drink. If you are twenty or more with the menu and open bar, the whole bar is yours at that price. If you want the whole bar without the open bar, or you are fewer, we agree an amount for the evening, which you use on food and drink.
