The small team
Six to fifteen is the easiest size. You get one end of the room, tapas boards on the table and someone from the house making sure the glasses are not empty. Nobody has to order along the way, and one bill comes at the end.
It is the kind of evening where a team actually ends up talking, instead of sitting in a row of cinema seats or waiting their turn at a bowling lane. That sounds like a platitude, but it is the most common thing people tell us afterwards.
A wine tasting as the event
Five or six wines, someone from the house telling the story, and an hour where there is something to talk about for people who do not know each other. It is not a course with spittoons and note sheets .. it is a tasting where you are allowed to say a wine tastes odd, and the answer is not a lecture.
It works best as an opening: an hour of tasting, and then the evening slides into an ordinary bar afterwards. If you are moving on to dinner elsewhere it fits that too .. the tasting simply ends when you need to leave.
The whole department
Up to around forty can have the bar to themselves. That is the honest limit .. we would rather say no than squeeze sixty people into a room built for forty, where nobody can then get to the bar.
At that size it makes most sense outside our opening hours .. Sunday to Tuesday, or early afternoon Wednesday to Saturday before we open. Then the house is yours alone, with no other guests to work around.
The Christmas do
December fills up early, and that is not a sales line .. it is simply how a small bar works. If you are after a Friday or Saturday in December, write well ahead, ideally in September or October.
Weekdays in December stay open longer, though, and a Tuesday mid-month is a genuine option if you would rather have the house to yourselves than fight over a Friday.
The practical bit for whoever is organising
Write how many you are, when, and ideally what you were thinking of spending per head. We come back with a concrete suggestion and a price. There is no package list, because an afternoon tasting for eight and a Christmas lunch for forty cannot cost the same.
We invoice after the event, so nobody has to stand at the bar with a company card. And we usually reply the same day .. nobody will ring you back to sell you an upgrade.
Ask early
The popular dates go first, especially Fridays, Saturdays and the whole of December. If you are after a particular day, ask early .. and ask anyway, even if it is in a fortnight. Sometimes there is simply room.

- Yes, and many do. We are five minutes from Central Station and a few minutes from the Meatpacking District, so it works both as a first stop before dinner elsewhere and as the last stop afterwards.
- Do you have space for presentations?
- No. There is no projector, no screen and no stage. If there are slides to be shown we are the wrong place .. we are a bar, not a meeting room.
