Birthdays
A place to hold a birthday in Copenhagen

- Up to around 40 standing, fewer seated
- A corner for 10-15 can be booked without hiring the whole bar
- A five-minute walk from Central Station
- Usually a reply the same day
The whole bar, or just a corner
If there are ten to fifteen of you, you do not need to take the whole place. We set aside one end of the room while the bar runs as normal, and you get your own tables and someone from the house keeping an eye. It is the cheapest option and for most birthdays the right one .. there is life around you instead of an empty room.
From thirty upwards it makes more sense to have the whole bar. Then there are no other guests to work around, the music is yours, and you can stand in the doorway talking without being in the way.
What a birthday here looks like
People arrive over half an hour, get a glass in their hand, and then the food stays out for the rest of the evening. Nobody sits down at a set time, and nobody has to make a speech while the others wait for dessert. If someone does want to say something, we turn the music down.
It works well from around thirty upwards, and it works particularly well when the guests do not already know each other. The room is small enough that people end up talking without anyone having drawn up a seating plan to force it.
Food, wine and cake
Tapas boards laid out by volume: cheese, charcuterie, olives, sardines, bread with oil and the grilled sandwich. Two or three boards per table is dinner, and most people leave full without ever having sat down.
We do not bake cake, but you are welcome to bring your own .. people often do, and we will find plates and candles. Let us know in advance so there is room for it.
Ask early
The popular dates go first, especially Fridays, Saturdays and the whole of December. If you are after a particular day, ask early .. and ask anyway, even if it is in a fortnight. Sometimes there is simply room.
How to book
Write how many you are, when, and ideally what you were thinking of spending. We come back with a concrete suggestion and a price you can accept or decline. We usually reply the same day, and nobody will ring you back to sell you anything.
Questions we get
- Where can you hold a milestone birthday in Copenhagen?
- Vesterhus at Istedgade 29 in Vesterbro gives over the bar for birthdays, either the whole room for up to 40 guests or one end of it for a group of ten to fifteen while the bar carries on as normal.
- Can we book without hiring the whole bar?
- Yes. For ten to fifteen people we set aside one end of the room. It is cheaper than taking the whole place, and for most birthdays it is better .. there is life around you instead of an empty room.
- What does it cost to hold a birthday there?
- It depends on numbers, timing and how much food there should be. There is no package price. Write to reservations@vesterhus.dk with numbers and a date and a suggestion comes back the same day.
- Can we bring our own cake?
- Yes, people often do. We do not bake, but we will find plates and candles. Let us know in advance so there is room for it.
- Can we get food for the group?
- Yes. Tapas boards laid out by volume: cheese, charcuterie, olives, Portuguese sardines, bread with olive oil and the grilled sandwich. Two or three boards per table is dinner, and people eat standing.
- Which days can we hold it?
- Easiest Sunday to Tuesday, when the bar is closed anyway .. then you can have the house to yourselves at any time of day. Wednesday to Saturday usually works too, either early in the afternoon or as part of the room while we are open.
