Private events
Have your party here
A birthday, a small wedding, a company evening, a christening, a reception or a tasting for your friends. We are happy to hand over the whole bar – or just a corner of it if you are fewer.

Birthday
A milestone birthday or just a good excuse. We set up the wine, you bring the music and the people.
Small wedding
The city hall is minutes away. Come by afterwards – we have room for the kind of day that shouldn't be a circus.
Company evening
The team, the clients or the Christmas do. A tasting can be added on if you want something to talk about.
Wine tasting
We open the bottles, say a short word about each and let you taste your way through. Informal, no exam.
What you get
The whole bar, if you want it. There is room for around forty standing and rather fewer seated, and that is the honest version .. we would rather say no than squeeze sixty people into a room built for forty.
If there are fewer of you, you do not need to take the whole place. We can set aside one end of the room for a group of ten to fifteen while the bar carries on as usual. It is the cheapest option, and for a birthday or a team lunch it is usually the right one too.
You get one of us behind the bar for the evening. We handle the wine, the food and the clearing up, and you will not be moving tables or fetching ice. If you want music, we know people .. it is what we do anyway.
What people hold here
Milestone birthdays are the most common, closely followed by company evenings where somebody has tired of another round of bowling. We have hosted receptions, book launches, christenings and a couple of wakes .. the last of which the bar is genuinely good at, because it is small enough that people end up talking.
And then there are the weddings. The city hall is a ten-minute walk away, so we regularly get groups who are married at two and want somewhere to go afterwards without it turning into a full dinner. It suits the place unusually well: wine, something to eat, no seating plan, and people can come and go.
Food and wine
We do not do plated courses. What we do is big boards .. cheese and charcuterie, olives, sardines, bread with oil, the grilled sandwich .. laid out along the tables so people can eat standing and keep talking. For a group we scale it by volume rather than per head, and most people leave full without ever having sat down.
For the wine you can either have the list as it stands, or ask us to pick three or four bottles that suit you and the budget. If you want it as a guided tasting with a story attached, we are happy to do that .. it takes about an hour and works well as an opening before people drift into the rest of the evening.
When it can be done
Easiest Sunday to Tuesday, when the bar is closed anyway. Then you can have the whole place to yourselves at any time of day. Wednesday to Saturday is usually possible too, but typically either early in the afternoon before we open, or as part of the room while we are open.
A couple of weeks' notice is ideal, and more than that if you are looking at November or December .. the Christmas month goes early. But ask anyway, even if it is next Tuesday. Sometimes there is simply room.
What it costs
We do not have a price list, and it is not to be mysterious. An afternoon reception for fifteen with some cheese is a very different thing from a Saturday night for forty with music, and a fixed package price would be wrong in both cases.
Write how many you are, when, and what you have in mind .. including what you were thinking of spending. We come back with a concrete suggestion and a price you can accept or decline. We usually reply the same day, and nobody will ring you back to sell you anything.
How it works
There is no booking form and no package list with asterisks. Write to us, tell us how many you are, when, and what you feel like – and we come back with a suggestion and a price. We usually reply the same day.
Questions we get a lot
- How many people can you fit?
- The bar works best for groups up to around 40 people standing and fewer seated. Write to us with your numbers and we will tell you honestly whether it fits.
- Can we rent the whole bar?
- Yes. We are happy to close to other guests when the party is big enough. We agree it case by case.
- What does it cost?
- There is no fixed venue fee. We put together a proposal based on the number of guests, the time and what you want in terms of wine and food. Write to reservations@vesterhus.dk and we will come back with a price.
- Can we get food for the group?
- Yes. Our cheese and charcuterie plates, bread, olives and sardines all scale up to a party. Tell us about any allergies.
- Can we do a wine tasting?
- Yes. We run informal tastings where we open the bottles we are excited about and say a short word about each.
- Where are you?
- Istedgade 29, 1650 Copenhagen V – in the middle of Vesterbro, a few minutes' walk from Copenhagen Central Station.
