Jazz & Blues Night: Buds

"Buds" is exactly what it sounds like: two good friends sharing the stage. Richard Farrell and Rick Hauchman are both staples of the Copenhagen music scene, and when they play together, you get the best of both worlds. Expect Richard’s soulful Irish vocals mixed with Ricky’s gritty roots guitar—a loose, fun night of blues and banter.

Nisse Thorbjørn has spent years refining his musical expression. While there are echoes of blues, folk, and soul, the sound is uniquely his own.

Nisse Thorbjørn is a recipient of the "Danish Blues Name of the Year" award and contributed to the 2018 Danish Music Award-winning album "Trainman Blues." Touring extensively across Europe, Australia, and Mexico under the name Copenhagen Slim, he has shared his music with audiences from all over the world. As a harmonica player, Nisse Thorbjørn learned from the masters of the Chicago blues scene. He has toured Europe as a harmonicist for John Primer and several other prominent American blues artists.
Recently, even Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers enjoyed Nisse Thorbjørn live. He was so impressed by what he heard that he asked to join in as a guest. Fortunately, the moment was captured on video. Watch it here: https://fb.watch/ndctdZWxzU/
Nisse Thorbjørn's music is vibrant and alive; for this reason, he chose to record his latest album using only "one takes" to ensure it felt "live" and completely authentic.

Since their debut album in 2018, the band has gained a following locally and abroad, both for their recordings and concerts, which are often described as magic and spiritual. Their impact on the blues scene has been solidified with three Danish Music Award in Blues, for Best Album of the Year in both 2018 and 2021, as well as the Blues Live Award in 2021, as well as a nomination for Album of the Year in 2022, for their live album 'Live At The Station’.
With love and inspiration from the 50s and 60s blues and soul, and a powerhouse of a vocalist like Richard Farrell, the band has succeeded taking the genres into the current times, in such a way that nobody is left wondering what the fuzz is about. With personal and original songs by Richard Farrell, produced and arranged by Laust Krudtmejer Nielsen, there are no reason not to tune in, to what this band is doing, live as well as in the studio.

Alain Apaloo from Togo is one of the most loyal Mojo artists throughout the last 30 years, and probably one of the very best musicians in Denmark. With his African background and an innate natural talent, Alain Apaloo delivers guitar playing from the very top shelf:
He masters virtually all styles and with a great love for the blues master Johnny Winter, a little blues is always turned into the music. In 2025, his album ' Naked' won best Blues Album at the Danish Music Awards.

For years, the Blues has slept through the nightmare of changing trends of digital dehumanization, but Branko and Bolding believe that there truly is no music better for bringing joy from the brink of breakdown and for claiming our personal agency in the world that accelerates around us. Through a deep passion for the folk artists of the Mississippi delta, now known as the pioneers of the blues, Branko Bergstrand and Mads Bolding handcraft an experience of this foundational genre of modern music that stands as vibrant today as in its inception.

Bassist August Bøegh, a rising name on the Copenhagen scene and touring member of Fredrik Kronkvist’s quartet, anchors it all with warm tone and effortless swing.

He landed in Denmark in 2015 and began with playing on the streets of Copenhagen, his musical career steeply took off in 2018 after winning a DMA for Best Blues Album with his blues/soul project Trainman Blues. This was followed by another 2 DMA’s in 2021 with the same band. In 2023 he released his 2nd album under his own name, 'Bathing In Cold Water' which is more recently followed by a serious of live acoustic releases/videos under the name, 'The Sunday Sessions’ in 2024. Alongside his own projects, Richard is a songwriter and vocalist collaborating with produces from all around the world.

F. W. Smolls is actually called Matthias Arbo Klein. He is a father of four, a multi‑instrumentalist and a highly productive songwriter. It very rarely happens that he plays his own songs with just a single guitar. Normally he’s busy switching between banjo, guitar, violin, mandolin and harmonica with the aim of promoting Old Time String Band music.
